Emerging actors immersed themselves in the craft of screen performance under the guidance of multi-awarded actress Melissa Leo during the FDCP Acting for the Screen and Set 2026, held from May 6 to 10 in partnership with Fest Film Lab.
From on-camera exercises to scene simulations, participants explored the depth, discipline, and emotional range required for acting on screen.
Through world-class mentorship, young Filipino actors continue to refine their craft and demonstrate their potential to thrive in the global film industry.
The FDCP First Draft! Short Film Screenwriting Workshop is officially underway!
A screening of ‘Agapito’ kicked off the first day of the workshop, setting the tone for creativity and inspiration.
Glynda Descuatan, vice chair of the Negros Oriental Tourism Council, also warmly welcomed all attendees to the event.
Mentors Kyla Romero and Martika Escobar shared their creative journeys, from their early inspirations to their experiences that shaped them into thriving filmmakers today. Participants then took a deep dive into technical writing, film structure, and visual storytelling, followed by breakout sessions where they exchanged ideas and learned from one another.
The session also tackled one of every writer’s biggest challenges: overcoming writer’s block.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) held its first Academic Film Society (AFS) members’ gathering of the year. on April 30 at the Cinematheque Centre Manila, Philippine Film Heritage Building.
FDCP Chairman & CEO Jose Javier Reyes opened the program, welcoming representatives of AFS member schools. This was followed by an open forum to share insights and suggestions. The AFS also shared updates on the Student Film Assistance Program (SFAP), including the film teachers’ training program and the upcoming Film Education Convention (FilmEC) this year.
The gathering reaffirmed the FDCP’s commitment to strengthening film education across the country by fostering collaboration among academic institutions and providing a platform that nurtures the next generation of Filipino filmmakers.
The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in partnership with the Intramuros Administration (IA) through the Inter-Agency Partnership Program (IAPP) and GMA Pictures, marked the Intramuros Administration Founding Anniversary at the FDCP Cinematheque Centre Manila on April 28, 2026.
A special screening of “Jose Rizal,” directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, was held for the IA workforce. The film features iconic scenes set within the historic walls of Intramuros, highlighting its enduring role in Philippine history and cultural identity.
The celebration was graced by Intramuros Administrator Atty. Joan M. Padilla, who had an engaging discussion with FDCP Chairman and CEO Jose Javier Reyes, reinforcing the strong collaboration between the IA and the FDCP in advancing their shared mission of promoting Philippine heritage through cinema.
Last April 21 - 23, 2026, the FDCP Film Editing Workshop was held in Palawan, where 40 students honed their skills and worked closely with award-winning film editor Ilsa Malsi.
The workshop was conducted in two parts: a lecture and a hands-on session. The lecture focused on film editing fundamentals, storytelling techniques, post-production workflow, and distribution preparation. The hands-on sessions centered on editing practice, covering scene assembly, storytelling structure, and refinement from rough cut to final cut with sound integration.
To conclude the workshop, students presented their final outputs and received feedback from their mentor, applying everything they had learned over the 3-day program.
This event was made possible in partnership with Isla Pelikula Film Festival and supported by the Puerto Princesa City Government of Palawan, the Provincial Government of Palawan, and Infinite Digital Media.
Day 4 focused on refining stories, strengthening character arcs, and deepening narrative structure as participants continued developing their original screenplays under the guidance of industry mentors.
From collaborative discussions to intensive writing sessions, the workshop provided aspiring filmmakers and storytellers with valuable insights into the creative process behind impactful Filipino cinema.
