Pinoy Film Director wins two International Awards

Multi-awarded film producer-director and socio-civic influencer Romm Burlat has won two major international awards for his two film entries, namely “Cuckoo” and “Agaw-pansin.”

 

The news was relayed recently to Burlat straight from the organizers of the Oniros Film Awards (OFA) 2020 of Vicenza, the capital city of the Veneto region in northern Italy, famous for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Site, Olympic Theater City of Palladio.

 

Burlat won Best Director for “Cuckoo,” a short film about a man’s descent into madness, played by emerging actor in the lead role “Bidman” Ron Macapagal, who also was bestowed a certificate of Honorable Mention for his moving performance.

 

The director also won Best Supporting Actor for his performance as a mentally deranged father in his second entry “Agaw-pansin,” a short film that he also helmed.

 

Last year, Burlat produced a short film “Tutop” that also won for him Best Horror Film at the OFA.

 

Earlier this year, he was an honoree at the Film Ambassadors Night 2020 tendered by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) for filmmakers who have won awards abroad in the creative and technical categories.

 

Last year, Burlat won Best Director at the 16th We Care International Film Festival (WCIFF) in New Delhi, India for “Ama Ka Ng Anak Mo.”

 

This year, he was designated as the local festival director of the WCIFF to be held this September in Manila.

 

The festival will coincide with the 1st Gawad Pilipinas Film Awards 2020 as his partner for the event.

 

Burlat has partnered with The Manila Times TV where he will host a weekly show billed “Of Criticisms & Critiques.”

 

His films will also be shown together with the curated audio-visual materials and indie films for the weekly film showing also at Manila Times Cable TV courtesy of FDCP Chairman Liza Diño.
