Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson Liza Diño has recently expressed hopes that the public will come and watch the eight entries of this year's Metro Manila Film Festival even if there are more indie movies than there are commercial films.

As reported on Sunstar, Diño, who appeared at a press conference recently, stressed that it is a great opportunity for Filipino independent film producers to have the exposure and the platform to showcase their movies during the Christmas season.

While there are no usual faces like Vic Sotto and Vice Ganda, Diño is optimistic that people would still watch these indie movies for the uniqueness of its stories.

"The reason why we are providing this opportunity for the independent films to be shown in this particular festival is to develop the audience and give them the opportunity to see different themes, in terms of the films we have in our country," said Diño.

These indie films include Arturo San Agustin's "Kabisera" - a movie revolving around extra-judicial killings, Erik Matti's "Seklusyon" - which is about an old ritual done by the church to its aspiring priests, and Avid Liongoren's "Saving Sally", which tells the story of a comic-book artist who has unrequited romantic love towards his best friend.
