MANILA, PHILIPPINES— The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) joined the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the inaugural edition of TIFF: The Market on September 10–20, 2026, championing Filipino cinema through industry engagements, cultural exchange, and the global premiere of Filipino films.

FDCP leadership engaged with DFA Usec. Maria Andrelita Austria, DTI Usec. Atty. Allan B. Gepty, and Trade Commissioner Mario C. Tani to explore opportunities to deepen Philippines-Canada trade relations and cultural ties.

The Philippine delegation also hosted the Philippine Delegates' Dinner, with the presence of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto, led by Consul General Kristine Leilani R. Salle.

  • Two Filipino Films. Two World Premieres.

The Philippines was represented by two films in TIFF’s official selection:

John Torres’s The Remotes features in the Wavelengths section, with Torres joined by actors Gabby Padilla and Enchong Dee

Lawrence Fajardo’s Silenced Nights featured in the Platform section and screened to a nearly full-capacity audience.

Through its participation at TIFF 2026, the FDCP continues to foster international collaboration, promote co-productions and create pathways for Filipino filmmakers and stories to reach audiences around the world.
