FDCP AND BRITISH COUNCIL PARTNER TO ASSESS ECONOMIC IMPACT OF PHILIPPINE FILM INDUSTRY

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the British Council entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to conduct the Philippine Film Industry Economic Impact Assessment, an initiative that seeks to generate data and insights into the film industry's contribution to the Philippine economy and establish an evidence base for policies that will support its sustained growth and development.

The agreement was signed on October 22, 2026, by FDCP Chairperson & CEO Jose Javier Reyes and British Council Country Director Lotus Postrado at the Philippine Film Heritage Building, Intramuros.

The assessment will examine the industry’s economic impact over the past three (3) to five (5) years, covering key segments of the film value chain, including production, distribution, and exhibition, as well as selected industry support and incentive programs, such as the Film Location Incentive Program (FLIP), International Co-Production Fund (ICOF), and CreatePHFilms.

Building on existing mechanisms, the study will consolidate and strengthen available information through a more comprehensive and systematic approach. It will also identify appropriate methods for measuring the industry's economic impact and develop policy recommendations to strengthen government support and guide the sector’s continued growth and development.

FDCP Executive Director Rachelle Villaluna and British Council Head of Arts Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan witnessed the signing.

Established in the Philippines in 1978, the British Council fosters UK-Philippines partnerships in arts and culture, education, science, and the creative economy. This agreement builds on this longstanding engagement, bringing together UK and Philippine expertise to better understand the economic contribution of the local film industry.
