MANILA, PHILIPPINES— In celebration of this year’s Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) proudly presented Sine Kabataan Short Film Festival 2026. Now on its 9th edition, the festival showcased a diverse lineup of nine (9) short films by young filmmakers from across the country. The films premiered from September 18-20, 2026, at Red Carpet Cinemas in Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong.
This year’s line up featured a wide range of genres from coming-of-age drama and dark comedy, to social realism, magical realism, and musical storytelling. The selection also celebrated the Philippines’ rich linguistic diversity, with films presented in Filipino, Cebuano, Bisaya, Waray, and Ilocano.
From hundreds of applications received nationwide, a select group of projects underwent development and incubation under the guidance of seasoned filmmaker-mentors throughout 2026. Nine (9) filmmakers stood out and received production financing to bring their cinematic visions to life:
- Asa Mutugpa ang Pag Lupad-Lupad (Where the drifting flight comes to rest?) - Dir. Emmanuel Pamaylaon
- Bato’ng Bunga (Stone Fruit) - Dir. Elj Seth Tababa
- Hindi Pa Nag-aagahan si Tau (String Bean Boy) - Dir. Janno Pelias
- Ikalulunod ko ba ang Paglangoy (“Will I drown if I swim?) - Dir. Lawrence Balingasa
- Inday’s Ark - Dir. Alex Loygos
- Kurita (Octopus) - Dir. Zechri Jacob L. Alvarez
- Piyesa (Piece) - Dir. Ryand Ugalde
- Titser, titser! (Teacher, teacher!) - Dir. Franchesca Grace Pagatpat
- Yada na ta Busag nga Vannn! (Here Comes the White Vannn!) - Dir. Giomer Gulferic
Among year’s entries, Bato’ng Bunga, an intimate and grief-stricken drama directed by Elj Seth Tababa, emerged as the festival’s most awarded film, receiving Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.

Following their premiere weekend, all nine films will continue their journey to audiences through screenings at the FDCP Cinematheque Centres nationwide.
