MANILA, PHILIPPINES— On September 21, 2026, during the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival, the International Administrative Agreement on Cinematographic and Audiovisual Co-production between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Spain was officially signed.
Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) Director General Marta Serrano signed on behalf of the Spanish Government, while Philippine Embassy in Madrid First Secretary and Consul, Atty. Dyan Kristine Miranda-Pastrana, represented the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairman and CEO Jose Javier Reyes. Officials from both countries witnessed the historic signing.
But the conversation didn’t end with the signatures.
A roundtable discussion brought together officials from ICAA and the FDCP, Filipino producer Armi Rae Cacanindin and Spanish producer Alba Sotorra to unpack what the agreement means in practice, from the realities of international co-productions to the opportunities in can create for Filipino and Spanish Producers.
This agreement strengthens the framework for Filipino-Spanish co-productions, opening the door to greater collaboration across borders and new possibilities for stories to travel further.
