FIRST PHILIPPINE FILM INDUSTRY MONTH SHORT FILM COMPETITION SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in collaboration with the Quezon City Screen Commission (QCSC) and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), concluded the inaugural Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM) Short Film Competition, held from May 5 to August 3, 2026.

 

The competition provided emerging Filipino filmmakers with a platform to showcase their stories, perspectives, and creative approaches to cinema through the short film format.

Eight finalists were selected for this year’s edition and screened at FDCP Cinematheques nationwide, namely:

 

  • The Cat Is A Wide-Eyed Night by Patrick Pangan
  • Sa Edge ng Flat Earth by Mark Moneda
  • Pangakuyad ning Pamanamdaman by Erick Jerard Gagui
  • Sa Loob ng Akin by Jessa Doydora
  • Bukas ang Pinto by Arlan Clark Benito
  • Sikwate: Worm with Illness by Franky Arrocena
  • Mga Batang Lambak by Kim Sta. Ana
  • pumipintig by Geremy Rivera

 

Among the eight finalists, “Sikwate: Worm with Illness” was named Best Short Film. The film, together with “The Cat is a Wide-Eyed Night,” also received the Raymond Red Future Voice Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines, recognizing their distinct creative voices and contributions to the continuing development of Philippine cinema.

 

Moving forward, the PFIM Short Film Competition will continue to support emerging filmmakers by creating opportunities to showcase their work and explore diverse stories and creative approaches within the Philippine short film landscape.
