CINEMATHEQUE CENTRE MANILA FINDS NEW HOME IN INTRAMUROS
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Intramuros, Manila’s beating heart of heritage, now home to the city’s Cinematheque Centre. As the first of many openings within the brand new Philippine Film Heritage Building, the FDCP positions Cinematheque Centre Manila as a hub and sanctuary for the country’s filmic culture.
TULOY ANG PELIKULA
Breaking ground in 2023, the Philippine Film Heritage Building begins the gradual opening of its doors to house the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Philippine Film Archive, and Filipino cineastes alike.
Cinematheque Centre Manila, once located in Kalaw, closed its doors at the end of 2024 after nearly a decade of operation. But the films never stopped rolling as Cinematheque mainstays like the international film programming of World Cinema and the heartful Sine Sinta found their way to cinemas across the metro, keeping the spirit of the Cinematheque alive while awaiting its new home.
THE CLASSICS LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE
The new 80-seater Cinematheque is equipped with a 2K DCP-capable laser projector, bringing vivid visuals to our big screen, and a sound system fitted with Dolby Atmos, ensuring full audio-visual immersion.
With its fresh look, the Cinematheque aims to continue its mission to preserve and uplift film classics for future generations. Upcoming programming includes restored works by National Artists like Sisa (1951) by Gerardo De Leon (February 27, 4pm), alongside contemporary features that honor their legacies with the premiere of Eddie Romero Remastered: A Century of Filipino Cinema (2026), a documentary by Baby Ruth Villarama (March 1, 1pm).
A HUB FOR ALL THINGS FILM
The FDCP continues its commitment to nurturing talent and strengthening the film industry nationwide. As before, the Cinematheque provides a space for emerging voices and new mediums to be experienced on the big screen.
A spotlight on a documentary that deepens our understanding of true stories and people with Nurse Unseen (2023) by Michele Josue on February 28, 1pm.

CINEMATHEQUE MANILA IS BACK, AND SO IS SISA
An inauguration ceremony was held for the brand new theater on February 26, 2026. Its ribbon-cutting and blessing was attended by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who greeted a group of film industry stakeholders.
The return of the Cinematheque Centre Manila coincided with the comeback of actress Hilda Koronel on the big screen, who was in attendance for an advanced screening of Director Jun Robles Lana’s Sisa ahead of its premiere on March 4, 2026.
The home for Philippine cinema is now in Intramuros, poised to greet cineastes and aspiring filmmakers alike.
