MANILA, PHILIPPINES—The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) concluded the 4th Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM) with a grand Filmmakers’ Night on September 27, 2024, at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City. This event capped a month-long tribute to National Artists for Film.

The Filmmakers' Night served as the fitting finale to this celebration, bringing together notable figures from the film industry for an evening of recognition and reaffirmation of their collective commitment to advancing Philippine cinema.

"I've always believed it's the next generation of filmmakers who holds the key to a better future," FDCP Chairperson Jose Javier Reyes said during his opening remarks, "it is the ground work paved by their predecessors that they may be able to redefine themselves, and bring the glory that the Philippine cinema deserves," he added.

Chairperson Reyes emphasized the agency's mission to promote industry growth and announced several new programs.

CreatePHFilms Fund for Short Films

This selective, non-recoupable film incentive provides up to ₱500,000 per project to support Filipino filmmakers in the production or post-production of their short films.

MMFF Student Short Film Competition

As part of the 50th anniversary of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), this competition will offer young filmmakers from universities across the country a platform to showcase their creativity and unique stories.

Films for Peace Funding Program

Aligned with FDCP’s advocacy for unity through diversity, this program will fund short film projects promoting peace. Selected projects will receive support for further development, marketing, or distribution to a broader audience.

National Artists Program

The program offers up to ₱2,000,000 for film projects inspired by National Artists, including publication and graduate research, preserving their legacy through cinema and academic work.

Meisner Crash Course for Young Talents

Building on the success of the previous Meisner acting workshop in June, the FDCP will host a crash course in November for teens and young adults, featuring 8 talented actors from each network: ABS-CBN, GMA, and Net 25. This course will provide invaluable training to help participants further hone their acting skills.

During the evening, the FDCP also presented an honorary distinction to Mother Lily Monteverde for her lifelong dedication to Philippine cinema as a producer and leader at Regal Entertainment, represented by her grandson, Keith Monteverde.

The event was hosted by Justin Quirino and Gretchen Ho, with vibrant performances by Janno Gibbs, Nina, Justin Pinon, 92AD, Jastine Rose Pagsanghan, and the SPEED Dancers.

As the month-long celebration of Philippine Film Industry Month comes to a close, the FDCP remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Filipino filmmakers and preserving the rich legacy of Philippine cinema.
