Makati, Philippines – On December 16, 2024, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), led by Chairman Jose Javier Reyes, in collaboration with De La Salle University (DLSU), presented the findings of their latest research on Filipino cinema audiences during a Stakeholders' Meeting at Makati Diamond Residences. The study explored the evolving habits, preferences, and challenges shaping the local film industry, providing key insights for its revitalization.

The collaborative research surveyed 800 respondents and conducted focus group discussions with 22 participants. Key findings revealed:

  • The Rise of Streaming: Streaming services have become the primary platform for 67% of respondents, while only 21% still frequent cinemas.
  • Barriers to Cinema Attendance: High ticket prices, limited availability of local films, and repetitive themes were cited as major deterrents.
  • Opportunities for Revitalization: Respondents emphasized the importance of compelling narratives, cultural relevance, and improved production quality in attracting audiences back to theaters.
  • Support for Local Films: Recommendations included increased marketing efforts, financial support for filmmakers, and more accessible ticket prices.
