Binging During Quarantine: The PreNup

By: Rosy Mina

The unexpected love story of Wendy (Jennylyn Mercado) and Sean (Sam Milby) gets complicated when their families interfere, demanding that they sign a prenuptial agreement that's more than 200 pages long. Sean's wealthy family wants to make sure that Wendy is not after their riches while Wendy's humble family sets conditions to make a stand against the rich who think they are superior over those who have less in life.

This week's Binging During Quarantine offers a rundown of memorable scenes from the featured film. For the romantic comedy "The PreNup," I have five favorite scenes:

1. Surprise seatmates

Wendy and Sean did not have an adorable meet-cute moment. They started on the wrong foot, and are surprised to find themselves seated beside each other on a business class flight to the United States. They argue at the beginning of the flight, prompting Sean to ask the flight attendant if he can be transferred to another seat. Their airplane moment may have started with annoyance, but it was a relief to see them smiling and laughing as the flight progressed.

2. Crying at Central Park

Upon arriving in New York City, the new acquaintances head over to Central Park. Wendy experiences a glitch in her travel plans, and luckily, Sean is willing to help her. Sean even comforts Wendy by mentioning that one should make lemonade out of lemons, which was what Wendy told Sean to comfort him when they were on the plane.

3. "No Wedding, No Loving!"

Wendy and Sean clearly enjoy each other's company. They eventually fall for each other. In a tender yet funny moment, they confess their feelings for each other and then bicker once again about making love. Wendy refused Sean because for her, the honeymoon cannot happen before the wedding. Sean is perplexed while Wendy utters with exasperation, "No wedding, no loving!"

4. Heartwarming parent-child moment

Wendy and Sean's whirlwind romance is bound for the altar. Everything is smooth-sailing until their families create the outrageous prenuptial agreement. The prenup took a huge toll on their relationship. In a tearjerker moment, Wendy's adoptive parent (Dominic Ochoa) consoles her even if he knew she was hiding in the living room. He went on to say encouraging lines to boost the self-esteem and confidence of Wendy.

5. Photo gallery magic

The gallery in New York, where Sean's photo exhibits are being held, is a simple setting but it is the location of an important scene in the movie. The scenic spots in New York are picturesque, but the way the photo gallery scene was written and shot yielded a certain kind of magic with the right amount of kilig.

Joining Mercado and Milby in the cast are veteran actors Freddie Webb and Jaclyn Jose, who play the roles of Sean's parents. Wendy's adoptive parents, meanwhile, are portrayed by Ochoa and Gardo Versoza. Neil Coleta is the younger brother of Sean while Melai Cantiveros and Ella Cruz are Wendy's adoptive siblings.
