The Event

Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is a week-long celebration that screens Filipino films exclusively for one (1) week in August in line with the Buwan ng Wika. This is the second year that the event is organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines in partnership with all theaters nationwide.

With the positive acceptance during its first year from audiences and stakeholders, FDCP intends to continue this culture of support to Filipino films.

Aim of the PISTA NG PELIKULANG PILIPINO

Philippine Cinema is at a milestone in celebrating its one hundred years. FDCP believes that it is time to Philippine Cinema to take the next leap by finding markets beyond the Philippines for Filipino films and content, not only just for recognition but as a move for film to be one of the country’s significant economic drivers.

In support of this and in addition to being a platform for Filipino films that resonates with the wider Filipino audience, the second year of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is envisioned to be the opportunity to discover and showcase films that can transcend the boundaries of international cinema. These are films that are quality-made, well-developed, and produced with a wide local and global audience in mind.

Both a celebration and an industry event like in its first year, Pista will offer a variety of film genres to the Filipino audience and to create a venue for them to let the industry know what films move and appeal to them, thereby creating a dialogue between film stakeholders. In addition to the nationwide screening, there will be caravans, audience surveys and forums to maximize the participation of stakeholders, from the theaters, to government agencies and local government units, to the producers and filmmakers, and most especially the Filipino audience.

Quality Genre Films

As an event dedicated to the audience, the PPP intends to showcase genre films, ranging from family-oriented, to romantic comedy, horror, fantasy, and even historical films that emulate Filipino sensibilities and culture, while at the same time having commercial and global appeal.

Dates and Venues

The event will take place from Wednesday the 15th to the following Tuesday the 21st of August 2018 in ALL theaters nationwide, except specialty cinemas including, among others, IMAX, 4DX, Director’s Club, A-Giant (Large Format Cinema), and all Gold Class Screens.

Selection of Participating Films

For 2018, eight (8) local films will be selected and curated by a Selection Committee designated by the Chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The FDCP Chairperson will serve as the Chair of the Committee. Among the final selection, a maximum of two (2) films will be accepted per genre e.g. romance, comedy, action etc. The films will be screened during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino in almost nine hundred (900) screens throughout the country.

Eligibility

The event is open to all Filipino producers with finished films who may submit more than one (1) entry.

Eligible film entries must satisfy the following criteria:

  • The film should have themes reflective of the Filipino sensibilities culture with wide audience appeal.
  • The film should have been produced from 2017-2018.
  • The film must have its Philippine premiere during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino and must not have been previously shown in any platform in the country. *Films which premiered internationally are eligible.
  • The film should have a minimum of 75 minutes and a maximum of 180 minutes in length.
  • The film must be submitted with English subtitles.
  • As a technical requirement, the film must be mixed at least 5.1 audio format or higher.
  • The producer must have a distributor. A distributor can be a distribution company, or an individual or group within the production team dedicated to the distribution of the film.
  • The producer must have a marketing plan ready in the event of selection.

Sine Kabataan

Eligible films must be willing to hardlock short film counterparts (2-5 minutes) from the Sine Kabataan Short Film showcase during PPP.

Selection of Finalists

Eight (8) films will be selected for the PPP by the Selection Committee. Though production companies may submit more than one (1) entry, a maximum two (2) films only may be selected per production, including co-productions and distribution. Each film chosen to participate in Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino will receive a Certificate and will have a guaranteed screening of seven (7) days from August 15-21, 2018 in selected cinemas. Extension of screening beyond the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino will be based on the box office performance of the film.

Commitment to Participate in PPP Activities

Film producers must be willing to commit their and their artists’ attendance and support to all major PPP-related promos and activities.

Marketing and Distribution Support

Selected films produced by independent film companies may apply for a marketing and distribution support from FDCP subject to evaluation. For approved applicants, there is a ceiling amount of Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (P 500,000.00). However, the amount awarded may not exceed fifty percent (50%) of the marketing and distribution budget cost.

International Film Market Support for Finalists

With the aim in mind that PPP shall be the springboard for which quality genre films with global appeal shall be selected, FDCP, as a next step, will be committing for all interested PPP finalists to be part of the roster of films to be brought by the Agency in international film markets to support the producers in securing international distributors and agents.

Assignment of Theaters

Theater assignments for the eight (8) films will be determined by the FDCP and the theaters involved. A minimum of around thirty (30) full screens will be assigned to each film upon the opening of PPP.

Special Feature Films

There will be special feature films to be invited by the FDCP as guest entries in selected theater branches with more than eight (8) screens.

Awards

On the 5th day of screening on August 19, the following awards will be given during the PPP Thanksgiving Night:

  • Audience Choice Award
  • Critics’ Choice Award
  • Special Jury Prize

Submission of Entries

The films to be submitted for selection must reach the FDCP office by the following dates with the corresponding entry fees:

  • April 20-May 6, 2018 - P 5,000.00
  • May 7-May 21, 2018 - P 7,000.00
  • May 22- June 15, 2018 - P 10,000.00

Entry payments may be through cash or via manager’s check made to the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

A watermarked screener copy of the film (For Consideration: Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino) must be submitted via seven (7) DVD copies AND a secured online link along with the following requirements:

  • Duly Accomplished Entry Form
    • Logline
    • Summary of the film
    • Lead Actor and Actress’ Filmography
    • Director’s Filmography
    • Background of production
  • Notarized Certification Form

Announcement of Finalists

All selected films will be announced by the first week of July 2018.

Screening Promos

On top of the quality film offerings of PPP, theater promos will be available to the audience.

Agreement

Submission to Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino constitutes agreement to all rules, regulations and conditions contained in this document and certifies that all film and music rights and production clearances have been obtained (in accordance with any and all existing applicable laws). By submitting, the filmmaker agrees not to withdraw the film from the event after it has been selected.

FDCP reserves the right to create, revoke, and modify at any time, in any way its entry requirements, rules and regulations at its absolute discretion without prior notice. Finalist and submitted entries shall be bound by any amendments or addition to the entry requirements, rules and regulations herewith.
